Our Seven-Step Pest Prevention Program

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Spring is officially here, and that means the bugs are here to stay! How are you protecting your home and family from ants, roaches, and other crawling pests? Our seven-step pest prevention program controls all crawling insects for one full year—guaranteed!

Step One. This preliminary step controls outside roaches and ants. We will set up baits around your home in selected sites in mulch beds, woodpiles, gardens, and the outlying borders of your yard.

Step Two. At this part of the treatment program, our trained pest control professionals will place specially formulated granular repellents on the soil and in shrubbery immediately adjacent to your home to drive annoying pests away.

Step Three. This step involves the utilization of a clear-drying liquid repellent, which we carefully apply around windows, doors, eaves, and other areas sneaky bugs can crawl into.

Step Four. Half-way through the program, we will place a baited granular in the attic and cracks and crevices found in your home to stop insects from entering their favorite hiding places.

Step Five. For this part of the program, we utilize a special granular ball agent. We will remove every accessible wall and light switch plate and inject this agent into the spaces between walls, where insects love to hide.

Step Six. This step uses baits similar to those used in Step One, but instead of being used outdoors, these are placed inside your home under major appliances where roaches and other insects scurry in search of food and water.

Step Seven. For the final step of the annual pest control program, we use a residual, gum-based attractant, which is applied in out-of-the-way spots, such as behind drawers and cabinets, to draw insects that have been inadvertently brought into your home or have managed to evade the other barriers.

We are so proud of our annual pest control program that we guarantee that it will work. If any bugs come back during the contract period, we will too—at no additional charge to you! To see why people call us the best pest control company in Central Florida, give our trained professionals at Pro-Staff Pest Control a call today at (407)292-7378.

Preparing Your Orlando Lawn for Spring

Friday, March 16th, 2012

Spring is right around the corner, is your yard ready? After a slightly cold winter, homeowners have begun to focus their attention back onto their lawn and will prepare to care for it. But, if you’re a new homeowner or inexperienced with lawn care, how do you maintain your lawn without doing more harm than good?

One of the first things that you should do in early spring is remove the debris that has accumulated in your yard over the winter, such as excess leaves, broken branches from nearby trees, or overgrown plants. However, wait until the soil has been dried out slightly to complete this task, because working on a soggy ground can be extremely detrimental to your yard.

While fertilizing turf in the spring can be beneficial, it needs to be done in moderation. Heavy applications of nitrogen fertilizer in the spring can cause serious lawn problems. When you decide to fertilize, choose a quality lawn fertilizer that contains controlled-release, slow-release, or water-insoluble nitrogen. These types of fertilizers release small amounts of nitrogen over an extended period of time, which leads to more uniform and healthy lawn growth.

If it can be delayed, early fall is actually the most optimum time to seed your lawn because fall weather conditions tend to be more favorable for the new turf and weed pressure is much less of a concern. Spring seeding can be successful, but is not recommended because hot weather often sets in before the new lawn is well established.

At Pro-Staff Pest Control, we are committed to providing the absolute highest quality lawn care services. Our early spring visit promotes recovery from winter stress. In April, we will fertilize your lawn to maintain its color and improve turf vigor into the summer. Your lawn will be inspected for insect and disease problems, and we will also apply a specially formulated fertilizer to maintain your lawn’s density and color. If you are interested in learning how the team at Pro-Staff can transform your Orlando yard through our high-quality lawn care services, please give us a call today at (407)292-7378.

Welcome to the Termite Colony!

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

When you picture a raid of termites infesting a house, chances are you imagine one homogenous group of insects working towards the same goal. But did you know that there’s actually a very sophisticated caste system within termite colonies?

  • King and Queen. These are the two most elite termites in the colony, primarily existing for reproductive means. The queen’s sole purpose is to reproduce, laying thousands of eggs every year. If that isn’t terrifying enough, consider this: some termite kings and queens live for as long as 30 years!
  • Workers. These termites are blind and wingless. Worker termites account for the majority of the caste system, and are most likely to be found in infested wood. The main objective of this type of termite is to build, repair, forage for food, and care for other termites.
  • Nymphs. This type of termite is still practically a baby: they are newly hatched termites that have not yet assumed a ranking within the colony. Once aged, a nymph termite can molt into various castes, including workers, primary reproductives, or supplementary reproductives.
  • Soldiers. These termites are the strongest in terms of fortitude, but are sterile, wingless, and blind. Their sole function is to defend the colony.
  • Winged Reproductives. The only type of termite with wings, these termites can leave the colony and swarm a new location, where they will shed their wings and begin to pair up to start a new colony.

Termites may have a complex caste system in which they function, but that doesn’t mean they have to invade your home. Pro-Staff Termite and Pest Control is one of the few Termidor-Certified pest control companies in Central Florida, and we promise 100% control of subterranean termites, guaranteed! Please give us a call today at 407-331-7370 for a free estimate.

What is Termidor?

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Did you know that the termite risk in the state of Florida is extremely high? Formosan termites and drywood termites are particularly common in the Southeast and can be extremely threatening for homeowners—every year, these termites cause $5 billion dollars worth of damage in the United States alone!

Termites can squeeze through cracks as narrow as 1/32of an inch to enter your home. They not only destroy the structure, but can attack movable wooden objects such as furniture. How do you plan on protecting your Central Florida home from thousands of dollars worth of damage? With over four million homes treated since 2000, Termidor is America’s #1 termite defense product.

Termidor begins to work immediately and completely rids homes of termites faster than any other liquid or bait product. The secret behind Termidor is its “Transfer Effect”; this product works as a barrier treatment on structural wood, and when termites come into contact with the treated area, they receive a lethal dose of insecticide. The affected termites contaminated with the chemical then transfer the insecticide to other termites, thus leading to a continuous cycle until all of the termites have been killed. Termites cannot see, smell, taste, or even avoid the chemical, leading to unparalleled effectiveness.

Over 15 years of testing has proved Termidor to be extremely effective. Additionally, its low-dose treatment leaves surfaces with virtually no odor, making it safe for family households. Next time you schedule your annual pest control treatment, consider asking about Termidor. Only Termidor-certified companies can apply the treatment, and Pro-Staff Pest Control is one of the few Orlando pest control companies with the experience and dedication to be certified. For a free evaluation, give us a call today at (407)292-7378.
