Preparing Your Orlando Lawn for Spring
Spring is right around the corner, is your yard ready? After a slightly cold winter, homeowners have begun to focus their attention back onto their lawn and will prepare to care for it. But, if you’re a new homeowner or inexperienced with lawn care, how do you maintain your lawn without doing more harm than good?
One of the first things that you should do in early spring is remove the debris that has accumulated in your yard over the winter, such as excess leaves, broken branches from nearby trees, or overgrown plants. However, wait until the soil has been dried out slightly to complete this task, because working on a soggy ground can be extremely detrimental to your yard.
While fertilizing turf in the spring can be beneficial, it needs to be done in moderation. Heavy applications of nitrogen fertilizer in the spring can cause serious lawn problems. When you decide to fertilize, choose a quality lawn fertilizer that contains controlled-release, slow-release, or water-insoluble nitrogen. These types of fertilizers release small amounts of nitrogen over an extended period of time, which leads to more uniform and healthy lawn growth.
If it can be delayed, early fall is actually the most optimum time to seed your lawn because fall weather conditions tend to be more favorable for the new turf and weed pressure is much less of a concern. Spring seeding can be successful, but is not recommended because hot weather often sets in before the new lawn is well established.
At Pro-Staff Pest Control, we are committed to providing the absolute highest quality lawn care services. Our early spring visit promotes recovery from winter stress. In April, we will fertilize your lawn to maintain its color and improve turf vigor into the summer.
